Civil Process
The Civil Process Division is charged with the service of civil and criminal papers.
These include subpoenas, writs, show causes, garnishments, summons, and warrants in debt. Each paper must be served or judged “not found.”
Each paper received is logged into the computer by records personnel and must be cleared when the paper is served. Deputies assigned to civil process also assist the patrol division with complaints and direct traffic when needed.
In 2009, the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office served over 19,000 civil papers.
