Drug tip at local high school leads to multiple arrests

Multiple arrests have recently been made in connection with drug-related activities at Eastern View High School in Culpeper County.

To date, four adults have been arrested; a warrant is pending on a fifth adult suspect while charges are pending on two juveniles.

Shortly after 3 p.m. on April 2, 2012, Dep. Marshall Keene responded to a tip that a car parked at the high school contained a large amount of marijuana. It was determined that the car was driven by a juvenile male. Continue reading

Driver strikes deputy in morning pursuit; three Culpeper men arrested

On April 15, 2012, at 2:28 a.m. Dep. Tim Bostic was traveling east on Germanna Highway (State Route 3) when he located a suspicious vehicle at the intersection of Revercomb Road and Germanna Highway.

Bostic approached the 1996 Ford Explorer, which had a driver and two passengers. The driver reportedly put the vehicle in reverse with the driver’s side mirror hitting the deputy’s arm.

Dep. Bostic instructed the driver to stop the vehicle, but the driver pulled the Explorer forward and reversed it, striking the deputy’s patrol car. The driver of the Explorer attempted to drive away, almost hitting the deputy a second time. Continue reading

Mock DUI crash shows teens the result of driving drunk

Lt. Nick White slowly draped a white sheet over the body of Eastern View High School sophomore Lauren Brewer on Friday morning.

As he did so, a fire and rescue crew from Culpeper worked on removing three other teenagers from two totaled vehicles in the school’s parking lot.

When White was done tending to Brewer, he approached E.V.H.S. senior Isaac Robare to ask him questions about the accident.

Luckily for Robare, and the hundreds of juniors and seniors who looked on, the crash scene was part of a demonstration to raise awareness about impaired driving during prom season. Continue reading

Investigators in Internet crime task force share warning signs of enticement

For parents who suspect their child is being pursued online by an adult, investigators want you to know that there are signs to look for—and there is help.

At the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office, select investigators have specialized training in online enticement and peer-to-peer file-sharing cases.

Lt. Jason Romero and First Sergeant Todd Durica are active members of the Northern Virginia-Washington D.C. Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.

The two are responsible for handling cases involving online child enticement, child pornography, cyber-bullying and sexting.
